Key Facts About The TABConf Hackathon 📊

Round 1 🏁

• 🕰️ You have 10 days to build a new Open Source project using Bitcoin in one of the three categories
• 🏁 Starting 09:00AM PT Wednesday, October 16th 2024
• 🏁 Ending 11:59PM Thursday, October 24th, 2024
• 👥 Enter as an individual or as a team of up to 4 people
• ⚠️ You cannot be on multiple teams
• 🛠️ Build whatever you want to compete to win the Best Hack Overall as long as it follows our rules
• 📹 Submissions must contain a 1 minute video that includes:
  • Name of the project
  • Demonstration of the project
  • How Bitcoin is used within the project and fits within a particular category (if relevant)
• 📝 Submissions will take place on the TABConf GitHub with a provided template
• 🏅 Winners of this round will advance to the semifinalists where they will have the opportunity to present on stage at the Next Gen Village at TABConf 6. Winners will be announced Main Stage!
• 👨‍⚖️ Round 1 will be judged by Car of PlebLab and I

Round 2 - The Semifinalists 🥈

• 🎤 If you advance past round 1, you will be eligible to pitch to the Grand Judges (super shadowy judges FTW)
• ⏱️ Pitches will be a maximum of 5 minutes
• 🏆 This is where you will be able to win the top prize and potentially categories as well
• 🥇 If you win best hack overall, you won’t be eligible for another category
• 🎉 Winners will be announced at the closing ceremony

TABConf 6 Hackathon Rules 📜

• 👥 Team sizes are 1-4
• ⚠️ You cannot be on multiple teams
• 📤 One submission per team
• 🆕 Your project must be developed DURING the TABConf hackathon
• 📂 All entries must be open source. The link to the codebase must be included in the submission
• ⏰ You must submit before the deadline. No late projects will be accepted
• 🎥 Include a demo video that is at least 1-minute.
• ₿ Must use Bitcoin in some capacity

TABConf 6 Hackathon Judging Criteria 🧐

• 💻 Technical Implementation: Does the project demonstrate quality and scalable software development?
• 🎨 User Experience & Design: Is the user experience and design of the project well thought out?
• 💡 Creativity and Innovation: How creative and unique is the project?
• 🌍 Potential Impact: How big of an impact could the project have on the Bitcoin ecosystem? If you’re looking to start a company, how large is the opportunity in terms of market size and revenue potential?

How to Submit Your Project 📤

To submit your project for the ZBD x PlebLab Hackathon, follow these steps:

1. Create a new issue using the hackathon-submission.md template
2. Ensure the information is complete whereever relevant.
3. Share it in the Signal group chat.

Your submission is not complete until you’ve created a issue with your filled-out hackathon-submission.md and submitted your GitHub issue.

Deadline: Remember, all submissions must be received by 11:59 PM PT on October 24th, 2024. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) ❓

Who can participate in the hackathon?

The hackathon is open to developers of all skill levels, from beginners to experts. You must be at least 18 years old to participate.

Do I need to know how to code to participate?

While coding skills are beneficial, teams can benefit from a mix of skills including design, business strategy, and Bitcoin knowledge. Non-developers are welcome to join teams and contribute their unique skills.

Can I work on a pre-existing project?

No, all projects must be developed during the hackathon period. You can come with ideas, but the actual development should start when the hackathon begins.

What if I don't have a team?

Don't worry! We encourage solo participants to join our Signal group where you can network and form teams with other participants.

Is there a participation fee?

No, participation in the ZBD x PlebLab Hackathon is completely free.

What kind of projects are you looking for?

We're looking for innovative projects that leverage Bitcoin technology. This could be anything from new wallet solutions to creative applications of the Lightning Network. Check our categories for more specific ideas.

Do we retain the intellectual property rights to our project?

Yes, you retain all rights to your project. However, remember that submissions must be open source as per the hackathon rules.

What if I can't attend the entire duration of the hackathon?

While we encourage full participation, we understand that life happens. You can still participate, but remember that all submissions are due by the deadline, regardless of when you started.

Are there any restrictions on the technologies we can use?

As long as your project involves Bitcoin in some capacity, you're free to use any programming languages, frameworks, or tools you prefer.

How will the judging process work?

Judging will occur in two rounds. In the first round, all submissions will be reviewed based on our judging criteria. Finalists will then be invited to pitch their projects to our panel of judges in the second round.

What support will be available during the hackathon?

We'll have mentors available in our Signal group to answer questions and provide guidance. We'll also be hosting workshops and AMA sessions throughout the event.
